Twyford Neighbourhood Plan Referendum Results

The Neighbourhood Plan successfully passed referendum on 6th July 2023 and will be formally adopted by Wokingham Borough Council in due course.

The results of the referendum were as follows:

YES: 1324 (88.5%)

NO: 169 (11.3%)

Turnout: 29%

Councillor Charles Wickenden, Chairman of the Twyford Neighbourhood Plan Group, commented “I am delighted that Twyford residents have backed the Neighbourhood Plan.  The Working Group have worked hard over 5 years analysing the responses of over 700 households who participated in the 2019 survey and other community engagements to develop, in conjunction with planning experts, a set of policies that will help ensure Twyford retains its village feel in the years to come.”

Councillor Martin Alder, Chairman of Twyford Parish Council, said “Creating the Neighbourhood Plan was an amazing piece of teamwork by our community. Councillors, working group volunteers and our residents, all contributed to the creation of the plan, with much time given freely over the last five years to do so. It is very satisfying for the Neighbourhood Plan to come to fruition.  Finally, on behalf of Twyford Parish Council, I would like to thank our electorate for their contributions and support of the Neighbourhood Plan and for taking the time to study the plan and vote.”

The Twyford Neighbourhood Plan will form part of the Development Plan for the Wokingham Borough, alongside the adopted Wokingham Borough Core Strategy and Managing Development Delivery Local Plan 2014, and in turn by the emerging Wokingham Borough Local Plan 2038.  These Plans combined will be used to decide future planning applications within the Parish of Twyford.

Twyford Parish Council would like to thank everyone who has been involved over the past 5 years and especially those who voted.
